Walt Kress competed in both track & field and football at Macalester in the mid-60s and excelled as a standout and four-year letterwinner in track. A top-notch quarter-miler, sprinter and hurdler, Walt also anchored the Macalester mile relay and half-mile relay teams which rarely lost a race, helping the Scots become a track & field powerhouse. In addition to that, he was a 440-yard MIAC hurdle champion. Walt’s mile relay team set conference records in 1968. During his years at Macalester, Walt tied or set seven school records.
