In his first season as a competitive diver in 1965, he won the MIAC one-meter diving event and was fifth and seventh nationally on the three-meter and one-meter boards, respectively. The following year, Wilson won the national championship on the 3-meter board and was second on the one-meter board. He also captured his second straight MIAC title to help the Scots win their sixth consecutive conference crown. A psychology and mathematics major at Macalester, Wilson earned his PhD at the University of Minnesota in counseling psychology and worked as a school psychologist for 25 years. He also has coached divers at all levels, and competed as a Masters diver. Wilson currently has his own practice as a licensed psychologist.
