Macalester began a remarkable string of 11 straight Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic (MIAC) men's track and field championships with its 1959 title as the Scots claimed first-place finishes in five events. Starting in the Thirties, Macalester established a great track tradition and the '59 squad under coach Gil Wilson was among the best ever. Three members of the team are in the M Club Hall of Fame.
Team lettermen who scored points for the Scots at the MIAC meet were: Alfred Page (captain), Brian Nichols (captain), LeRoy Martin, Warren Kelly, Duane Samuelson, Ron Bole, Richard Hume, Steve Skjold, James Toliver, Robert Kamish, William Rovick, Allen Anderson, Orv Fenstad.
