Jerry M. Ingalls was named Athlete of the Year as a senior in 1953–54. He played four sports at Mac, excelling as a swimmer on some outstanding Scot teams. Ingalls was the team captain as a senior, earning conference championships in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle races.
He lettered in football as a sophomore, won three varsity letters in golf and had a successful post-Macalester amateur golf career.
In the 1970s Dr. Ingalls was named a Macalester “Distinguished Citizen.”
He has enjoyed a notable medical career as a board certified general surgeon, and in 1980 was elected president of the Illinois State Medical Society, one of the largest medical organizations in the country.
Dr. Ingalls was elected Citizen of the Year by his community of Paris, Illinois, where he was instrumental in starting a YMCA program.
