Clarence H. Kroning, drew national attention to Macalester in 1934 when he broke the AAU javelin record at the University of Minnesota Invitational with a throw of 2l5' 5 1/2". This was the fifth best throw by any collegian at that time. An injured arm in 1935 kept him from improving that record although he still continued to place first in Macalester's meets.

Kroning was also an outstanding quarterback on the football team and played basketball. He is a past president of the M Cllub, and was vice president of his class during his freshman year.

Kroning's career includes having been vice president of First National Bank of Minneapolis. He now makes his home in Naples, Florida.
