Certainly one of Macalester's greatest wrestlers, Carl Larson never lost a match to a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent during his three years on the wrestling team, claiming league titles at 175 pounds in 1948-49-50 and a Northwest AAU championship in
1949. Macalester won the conference team crown all three years he wrestled. He was also an outstanding linebacker for two seasons with some talented Scot football teams.
Tragically, Larson received fatal shotgun wounds the summer before his senior year, on June 25, 1950, and died 11 days later. According to the Mac Weekly, "Carl was one of the best known and most respected students on the campus during his three years here. He was one of the most conscientious workers in athletics, classroom work and extra-curricular activities the college has ever known."
