GAME NOTES - MACALESTER vs. VITERBO
The Macalester men’s soccer team enters today’s opening contest with excitement. After having their traditional season canceled last year due to COVID, the team is ready to be back in action. The Scots were able to scrimmage four times in the spring, defeating Hamline twice and drawing with Augsburg and St. Olaf. This year’s squad has eight seniors, including goalkeeper Cade Fink (Plainfield, Ill.), who returns for a fifth season. All-MIAC defender Will Orser (Eau Claire, Wis.) and Quinn Frankovsky (Boulder, Colo.) will help anchor the Scots’ backline, while seniors Omar Anwar (St. Paul, Minn.), Jack Muller (Carmel, Ind.), Rohit Shah (Sunnyvale, Calif.) and Ben Wagner (Orchard Park, N.Y.) provide leadership in the midfield. Forward Danny Peak (Marion, Iowa) is the lone senior forward, he will provide scoring punch along with a host of underclassmen up top. Tonight Macalester faces Viterbo for the first time. The V-Hawks are an NAIA team from La Crosse, Wis., who were 10-2 last season. Alfie Gyurkovits and Adam Krakora were All-Conference in 2020-21.
