Steve Murray is the Deno Fitness Center Coordinator and Strength & Conditioning Coach at the Leonard Center. His duties include organizing the Deno Fitness Center, teaching fitness classes, supervising and teaching proper techniques for training on the new equipment, supervising student workers, and working with WHAM (Wellness & Health at Macalester) on campus-wide health and wellness initiatives. Murray organizes strength training and programmatic needs for the varsity athletic teams, and provides athletic training consultation for athletes rehabilitating injuries.

Athletic Development Philosophy:
To provide a comprehensive, sport specific strength and conditioning program that gives our student-athletes the opportunity to achieve their full athletic potential. We use scientific, evidence –based training principles and methods to create strength and conditioning programs that improve athleticism through increased speed, power, strength and flexibility of our student-athletes. The student athletes of Macalester will utilize free-weight, ground based, multi-joint movements; along with a holistic approach of nutrition, sleep, and lifestyle balance to achieve their goals and reduce their risk of injury.

The 9,000 square-foot fitness center triples the previous amount of space available to students. Students will have access to state-of-the-art cardio equipment, circuit training equipment and free weights.
