The Macalester Scots have once again earned team academic honors by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Macalester track & field throws coach Bryan Tolcser will be competing at the USA Outdoor National Track & Field Championships this Thursday through Sunday (June 25-28) in the hammer throw. Macalester closed out the track & field season by placing 12th at the MIAC championships Friday and Saturday at Carleton College in Northfield. The team’s top finish was turned in by Tara McCoy, who placed fifth in the 800-meter run finals with a 2:20.20 clocking. After part of the team competed three nights ago at the Tommie Twilight meet, another group of Scots participated Saturday at Hamline University’s Meet of the UnSaintly against a strong group of entrants from Division I, Division II and Division III schools. This was Mac’s final prep for next weekend’s MIAC championships. Sprinter Emily Matthews showed that she can be a factor at the upcoming conference meet, placing eighth out of 29 entrants in the 200-meter dash (26.41). Macalester sent a partial squad to compete in the 14-team Tommie Twilight Meet at the University of St. Thomas. The team’s top finishes were a pair of 13th-place efforts turned in by Tara McCoy and Emma Swinford. Maddie Mette placed first in the long jump to lead the way for the Scots at the 33rd annual Macalester Invitational on Saturday. Mette’s winning mark was 16-3 1 /4 (4.96 meters). Emma Swinford produced the team’s second-best finish when she placed third out of 30 runners in the 1500 meters (4:57.02). Emily Matthews placed fourth in the 400-meter dash (1:00.40) and Tara McCoy ran to a fifth-place finish out of 39 in the 800 meters (2:21.69). Macalester competed at the Manitou Classic in Northfield and was led by Emily Matthews, who placed second out of 40 entrants in the 200 meter dash with a clocking of 26.67. Six teammates earned top-ten finishes in this large meet on the St. Olaf College campus. Macalester competed in a huge 23-team meet at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter and turned in some impressive performance at the Lee Krough Invitational. Emily Matthews and Maddie Mette led the way for the Scots with top-ten finishes.
