Macalester’s men’s track & field team has again earned team academic honors by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Also, Macalester’s Wade Ekstrom earned individual national academic honors. Macalester’s Wade Ekstrom placed 12th in the finals of the 1500-meter run Saturday at the NCAA Division III Championships in Marietta, Ohio. Ekstom made the finals by recording a 3:53.64 time in Thursday preliminary round heat. After setting a school record 3:50.98 time last week at the UW-La Crosse NCAA Qualifier meet, Wade Ekstrom has earned a spot in the 1500-meter field at the NCAA Division III championships set for this Thursday through Saturday (May 21-23) in Marietta, Ohio. Wade Ekstrom gave himself an excellent chance at making next week’s NCAA Division III championships when he ran he ran to a school-record 3:50.98 time in the 1500 meters at the Wisconsin-La Crosse Last Chance Meet Thursday night. He easily made the provisional-qualifying 3:55.00 mark and came up just short of the automatic qualifying time of 3:50.60. Wade Ekstrom placed fourth in the 1500-meter run and an hour-and-a-half later ran to a seventh-place finish in the 5000 meters to lead the way for Macalester Saturday during the second day of competition at the MIAC men’s track & field championships at Carleton College in Northfield. The Scots placed 10th in the team standings. The Scots hosted the Bolstorff Twilight Meet and placed ninth out of 18 teams, and Wade Ekstrom won the 1500-meter run, charging past a University of Minnesota runner just before the finish line in to win with a 3:56.03 time. Martin Mudry finished in the runner-up spot in the 5000 meter-run (15:39.16).
