Macalester College's football team will join coaches nationwide in support of the Coach to Cure MD program. The Mac coaching staff will wear a Coach to Cure MD logo patch on the sidelines of this Saturday's (Sept. 15) 7 p.m. game against Maranatha Baptist.
The rapidly growing annual effort has raised nearly a million dollars to battle Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and should top the $1 million plateau in 2012 under the sponsorship of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). Most of the college teams nationwide will promote this event Sept. 29, but it will be held this Saturday at Macalester Stadium because the Scots are on the road the following two weekends.
The AFCA members will wear the Coach to Cure MD logo patch on the sidelines and college football fans will be asked to donate to research projects supported by Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy, the largest nonprofit organization in the U.S. focused entirely on Duchenne muscular dystrophy, the most prolific lethal genetic disorder of childhood.
The Scots ask all fans to join the team in donating to Duchenne muscular dystrophy research by either going online to www.CoachtoCureMD.org or by texting the word CURE to 90999, where a $5 donation will automatically be added to your next phone bill.
Last year, more than 10,000 college coaches at 505 different institutions participated in Coach to Cure MD events.
