Macalester senior defender
Nate Juergens (St. Paul, Minn. / Como Park) has been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) / Performance Subaru Men's NCAA Division III All-America team. Juergens becomes the ninth All-American in the history of the program and first since Nathan Knox in 2003. Juergens is a third-team selection.
“The recognition of All-American for Nathan is a fine personal achievement,” said Macalester head coach Ian Barker. “It is certainly reflective of the kind of year he had as the captain and leader of our team and also reflective of a really strong career for the program.
“Nathan has been as solid a performer as the program has had in recent years and this award is a fitting one for all of his contribution to Macalester soccer,” Barker continued. “The players and coaches are really happy for him that he has been recognized in this way.”
Juergens is a three-time All-MIAC defender and two-time All-North Region selection. He led a defense which surrendered just 20 goals in 20 matches as the Scots finished 14-5-1 on the season and made it to the NCAA Division III playoffs for the second year in a row. The Juergens-led Macalester defense registered nine shutouts on the season.
He also scored the game-winning goal on a free kick from 40 yards away, his first collegiate score, to give Macalester a key late-season 1-0 win over St. Olaf. That ignited a four-match Macalester win streak which brought the Scots the MIAC championship.
