Gustavus Fall Invitational results
Macalester's top players competed last weekend (Sept. 25-26) at the Wilson / ITA Midwest Regionals hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College. This competition featured the top teams and players in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa.
Three Scots played in the singles bracket.
Paige Schaefer advanced to the round of 32 by collecting a 3-6, 6-1, 11-9 victory in her first match as a Scot over Hamline's Anna Yarborough. Schaefer was then defeated by eventual semi-finalist Sierra Krebsbach from Gustavus 6-1, 6-0.
Amanda Wenzel (Sr., Green Bay, Wis. / Southwest) won a 6-0, 6-2 play-in match to get to the round of 62. Wenzel lost a 6-1, 6-1 match in the round of 16 to Ali O'Neal of Gustavus, and
Stephanie Lee (Sr., Camarillo, Calif. / Oaks Christian) dropped a 6-0, 6-3 contest to Sam Frank of Gustavus, who went on to reach the finals.
Lee and Wenzel were entered in the doubles bracket. They won a play-win match over St. Scholastica and then beat a pair from Hamline before dropping an 8-4 decision in the round of 16 to a team from Carthage.
Gustavus also hosted the Fall Invitational over the weekend in St. Peter, Mankato and Owatonna and Macalester was also represented in this event.
The doubles team of Schaefer and
Maddie Vargo (Fy., California, Pa.) won an 8-5 first round match over St. Catherine before falling in round two to UW-Whitewater.
