USTFCCCA press release | USTFCCCA Homepage

Macalester's men's track & field team has again earned team academic honors by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Also, Macalester's Wade Ekstrom (Jr., La Crescent, Minn.) earned individual national academic honors.

A total of 51 Division III programs made up the men's 2009 All-Academic Teams and the Macalester Scots, under head coach Martin Peper, ranked seventh overall with a cumulative grade point average of 3.400. Colorado College led all institutions with a 3.490 team cumulative GPA, followed by Haverford College with a 3.466 team GPA.

The selection of the All-Academic Indoor and Outdoor Scholar Teams of the Year award is based on a combination of academic and athletic achievements, with the top honor going to the team that had the combination of best overall finish at the respective Division III Indoor or Outdoor National Championships and cumulative GPA.

To qualify for the individual award, won by Ekstrom, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met the NCAA Division III Indoor or Outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard in their respective event. A total of 186 student-athletes representing 78 Division III colleges and universities made up the 2009 All-Academic team.
