Macalester's Wade Ekstrom (La Crescent, Minn.) closed out his junior season by placing 12th in the finals of the 1500-meter run Saturday at the NCAA Division III Championships in Marietta, Ohio.

Ekstom made the finals by recording a 3:53.64 time in Thursday preliminary round heat. He was in the second- and third-place range early on through a couple tactical laps, but then fell back as the top contenders made their moves, finishing in 12th with a time of 4:01.32.

The event winner was Ty Griffin of Mount Union (3:53.41).
