By placing third in his heat with a 3:53.64 time this afternoon, Macalester's Wade Ekstrom (Jr. La Crescent, Minn.) has qualified for Saturday's finals in the 1500-meter run at the NCAA Division III track & field championships in Marietta, Ohio.

The top four runners in Ekstrom's second heat came across the finish line together. On order, they were Dallas Vincent of UW- La Crosse (3:53.64), Ty Griffin of Mount Union (3:53.64), Ekstrom (3:53.64) and Brandon Gleason of Hamline (3:53.65). The top eight times all belonged to the runners in heat 2.

Ekstrom takes on 11 others runners in the championship finals set for Saturday at 1:20 p.m. (eastern time).
