Mac juniors Baltzer & PaStarr earn Academic All-District honors

The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 5 women's basketball team

Macalester juniors Ann Baltzer (Bismarck, N.D.) and Trina PaStarr (Minneapolis, Minn. / Southwest) have been selected to the 2008-09 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 5 women's basketball team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Baltzer and PaStarr are third team picks and are two of the three MIAC players honored, along with third-team selection Jenna Freudenberg from Concordia College.

Top student-athletes from non-Division I programs in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ontario and Manitoba are eligible for inclusion on the District 5 team. Selection to this team is based on a combination of athletic and academic achievement. A total of 80 college division student-athletes were nominated from District 5 institutions.

Baltzer and PaStarr are three-year starters on the Macalester front court.

A Psychology major with a 3.67 cumulative GPA at Macalester, Baltzer currently leads the MIAC with a .531 field goal shooting percentage while ranking fifth in the conference in scoring and 12th in rebounding. She leads the team with a 13.6 scoring average. Baltzer's career figures at Macalester include 796 points scored and 387 rebounds.

An Environmental Studies major with a 3.77 GPA, PaStarr is an All-MIAC forward who is currently ranked sixth in the league in scoring, one spot behind Baltzer, fourth in rebounding and sixth in blocked shots. For the year, PaStarr is averaging 13.4 points and 7.6 rebounds a game. She has 865 points and 490 rebounds so far in her Macalester career.

The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team is part of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America program, administered by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) a 2,000-member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. The Academic All-America program annually honors over 1600 student-athletes who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom.
