ESPN The Magazine / CoSida Academic All-District teams

For the second year in a row, Macalester linebacker Josh Boomgaarden (Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn. / Eden Prairie H.S.) has been selected to the ESPN The Magazine / CoSida Academic All-District 5 football team. Boomgaarden is a first team selection and as such, will go forward for consideration for Academic All-America honors.

The award is sponsored and voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSida). To be eligible for academic all-district honors, a candidate must achieve the highest levels of success both in the classroom and on the field. Competition is stiff because candidates are nominated from all Division II and III schools (as well as NAIA) from the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana.

Boomgaarden is an Economics major with a 3.90 cumulative GPA. A team captain, he has made the Macalester Dean's List every semester and is a member of Omicron Delta Epsilon (national Economics honor society).

Macalester's leading tackler last season as a junior, Boomgaarden leads the Scots once again this year in his senior campaign with 89 tackles, twice as many as the team's second-leading tackler, with one game to go. He's registered double digits in tackles in each of the team's past four games.
