Nick Santrach (Jr., Coon Rapids, Minn.) and
Ryan Peters (Sr., Kohler, Wis.) led Macalester to a seventh place finish at the 2009 MIAC championships at Bunker Hills Golf course in Coon Rapids. The Scots move up a spot from a year ago and improve their team score by 11 strokes despite difficult playing conditions.
Santrach finished in 19th place with a 56-hole total of 230. He fired rounds of 74, 75 and 80, and was in sixth place overall with six holes to play before a frustrating final six holes. Peters turned in scorecards of 75, 81 and 80 for a 27th-place 236.
Dan Allen (So., Orland Park, Ill. / Carl Sandberg) and
Ben Langworthy (Jr., Tucson, Ariz. / Tucson Maganet School) finished the three-day event with scores of 241 and 242, respectively. Allen posted scores of 84, 80 and 77, while Langworthy turned in rounds of 81, 85 and 76.
St. John's won the team title, while Gustavus and St. Thomas tied for runner-up honors. The individual champ was Tony Korgen of SJU with a 213 (72-67-74).
The fall season has one more event: the Oct. 10-12 Twin Cities Classic. That will be held at Elk River Country Club and The Links at Northfork in Anoka.
