Season gets started at Riley Pool

Complete Macalester vs. UW-River Falls results

After several weeks of pre-season training, Macalester's 2009-10 campaign got underway Friday night at the Riley Pool in a dual meet with Wisconsin-River Falls. The visitors won the meet by a 151-110 score. Macalester turned in seven first-place efforts on the night.

Ted Metz (Fy., Teaneck, N.J.) began his college career by swimming to first-place finishes in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:38.94) and 100 breaststroke (1:09.91). Nathan Young (Jr., Denver, Colo. / Littleton), in his first meet since last winter's national championships, won three events: the 100 yard backstroke (58.21), 50 freestyle (22.74) and 200 back (2:07.42).

Jeff Yamashita (Jr., Honolulu, Hi. / Iolani School) reached the wall first in the 100 free (50.24). Macalester also won the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:30.95) behind the swims of Paco Venneri (So., Los Alamos, N.M.), Jackson Gilkey (Fy., Millis, Mass. / Xaverian Brothers), Yamashita and Young.

Mac's next completion is a Nov. 14 MIAC dual at St. Mary's.
