Macalester placed 16th out of 27 teams at the Wisconsin-La Crosse Tori Neubauer Invitational, one of the biggest and competitive races in the Midwest and the team's final prep for the Oct. 31 MIAC championships.
Erin Lowrey (Sr., Whitefish Bay, Wis.) placed 33rd in this giant field of 448 runners, completing the 6-kilometer course in 22:50.6 to lead the way for the Scots.
Lowrey was fourth best among MIAC runners in this race which involved eight conference teams. The Scots were fourth among the four MIAC teams.
No. 6-ranked Wisconsin-Eau Claire won the team crown (51) points over Nebraska Wesleyan (108), UW-La Crosse (130) and North Dakota State (140). Wartburg's Anna Kraayenbrink was the first runner across the finish line (21:43).
The Scots had three runners finish in under 24 minutes and three in the top one-third of the race.
Tara McCoy (Jr., Menomonie, Wis.) placed 97th (23:47.4) and the team's No. 3 runner was
Tess Carley (Fy., Cumberland, Me. / Greely), who placed 112th (23:57.5).
Libby Tollefson (Jr., Billings, Mont.) placed 150th (24:20.1),
Lena Sessions (Sr., Eugene, Ore. / South Eugene) was 156th (24:26.1) and
Anna Hankins (Sr., Mansfield Center, Conn. / Edwin O. Smith) was 158th (24:28.0).
The MIAC championships are set for Oct. 31 at Como Park in St. Paul at 2 p.m. The Scots are out to improve on last year's eighth-place conference finish and Lowrey is going for her fourth straight All-MIAC finish.
