Macalester placed 23rd out of 29 teams at the very large Wisconsin-La Crosse Jim Drews Invitational, the team's final prep for the Oct. 31 MIAC championships.
Wade Ekstrom (Sr., La Crescent, Minn.) once again paced the Scots, placing 10th out of 462 finishers. The team's next two runners were
Carl Biggers (So., Verona, Wis.) and
Ollie St. John (So., Washington, D.C. / Edmund Burke School).
One week after winning the Blugold Invitational in his previous race, Ekstrom turned in another huge effort. He was fifth among Division III runners and first among MIAC harriers, finishing the 8-kilometer race with a personal-best 25:00.6 clocking and moving up to the No. 2 spot on Macalester's all-time performance list. Ekstrom moves up from the third spot on the honor roll, passing former teammate
Martin Mudry '09, who ran a 25:06 two years ago.
Landon Peacock of the University of Wisconsin (24:27) beat teammate Jack Bolas (24:42) for first place. Wisconsin (32 points) beat UW-La Crosse (49) and South Dakota State (92) for the team title.
Biggers, Mac's No. 2 runner, was 167th overall with a 27:12.9 time, while St. John was also in the top half of the field with his 210th-place mark of 27:32.
Adrian St. Francis (Fy., Sonoma, Calif. / Marin Academy) placed 289th (28:31) and
Jon Bassen (Jr., Shorewood, Wis.) was 313th (28:52.8).
