No. 5-ranked St. Thomas began its quest for its fifth straight MIAC crown by sweeping Macalester 16-0 and 9-0 at UST in the league opener for both teams. The Scots, playing for the first time since March 21 in Florida, are now 5-9 going into tomorrow’s doubleheader against St. Olaf. The Tommies, who have now won 34 straight conference games and 25 in a row at home, are now 17-3.
St. Thomas pitchers allowed just one hit on the day, and received a five-inning perfect game in the nightcap from Marta Ratcliffe.
Mac’s lone hit on the day came off the bat of
Crystal Barriga (So., Broomfield, Colo. / Legacy) in the fourth inning of game one.
The Scots, who normally will play home games at nearby Dunning Softball Complex, will host the Oles tomorrow at the Arlington-Rice softball field near the intersection of Arlington & Rice avenues in St. Paul.
