Scots host Twilight Meet; Mitchell takes javelin throw

Evan Mitchell (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn. / South) tossed the javelin 54.49 meters (178-9) to take first-place honors at the Macalester Twilight Meet. The two-time defending conference champion, Mitchell placed first by less than an inch to account for Macalester's best finish.

University of Minnesota and unattached athletes dominated many of the events, while the meet also featured teams from St. Thomas, Augsburg, Bethel, Carleton, Hamline, St. John's, Minnesota State-Moorhead, Concordia-St. Paul, Northwestern and Martin Luther. The meet was not team-scored.

Kevin Williams (Jr., Jamaica) had a very strong meet for the Scots, placing fourth in the long jump (22-2 ½ / 6.77m), eighth in the 100-meter dash (11.21) and 12th in the 200 (22.78).

The Scots entered a strong contingent in the 800-meter run, a race dominated by three unattached runners. Wade Eckstrom (So., La Crescent, Minn.) placed fifth (1:57.33), Will Kennedy (Sr., San Anselmo, Calif. / Branson School) placed sixth (1:57.76), Josh Springer (Sr., Portland, Ore. / Cleveland) was eighth (1:58.01) and Tyson Morgan (Jr., Lewiston, Me.) was ninth (1:58.03).

Kyle Braam (Sr., Burnsville, Minn.) finished sixth in the 5000-meter run (15:52.05), Franz Meyer (Jr., Kirkwood, Mo.) was 10th in the 400 IM hurdles (58.46), Sean Cooke (Jr., Guangzhou, China / American International) was 10th in the triple jump (40-2 ¾ / 12.26m) and Dale Dybvig (Fy., Osceola, Wis.) took 12th in the 1500 meters (4:11.50). Mitchell added a ninth-place finish in the hammer throw (155-10 / 47.50). 

The Scots are off until Hamline's Meet of the Unsaintly on May 2.
