Game 1 box score | Game 2 box score

After dropping the opener 3-2 for their third tough one-run league defeat in eight days, the Scots came to life in the nightcap with a 12-2 five-inning victory to earn an MIAC split at St. Catherine.

Macalester is now 7-17 on the year and 2-10 in the MIAC, while St. Kate's is 8-14 overall, 5-5 in the MIAC. The Scots snap a seven-game skid heading into their next conference doubleheader Saturday (April 19) at Concordia.

The Scots had two players with three hits and another two with two hits in the 12-hit attack in game two. At the top of the order, Katie Grudnowski (Sr., Minnetonka, Minn. / Blake School) went 3-for-4 with a couple runs scored, and Amanda Cagan (So., Saratoga, Calif. / Monta Vista) was also 3-for-4 with three runs.

Alison Phillips (So., Vernon Hills, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson), who accounted for an RBI and two of Mac's three hits in the first game, was 2-for-3 with two RBI, and Crystal Barriga (So., Broomfield, Colo. / Legacy) boosted her team-leading RBI total to 26 with four more runs driven in on a 2-for-3 performance. Grudnowski, Meredith Wisniewski (Jr., Park Ridge, Ill. / Maine South) and Carley Klingensmith (So., New York, N.Y. / Nightingale-Bamford School) scored two runs apiece.

Leading 4-1, Mac put things away with eight runs in the top of the fourth.

Olivia Abbott (So., Lakewood, Colo. / Green Mountain) was solid in the pitching circle in the opener, holding the Wildcats to five hits. St. Kate's led 3-0 after scoring twice in the first inning and once in the sixth, but the Scots made a dangerous two-out threat in the top of the seventh, getting a pair of walks and a two-run Phillips double before CSC put out the rally.

After playing Saturday at Concordia, the Scots are set to host Bethel Monday (April 21) and St. Mary's Wednesday (April 23) at Dunning Softball Complex.
