Distance medley relay team places second at MIAC meet

Macalester's distance medley relay team placed a close second to lead the way for the Scots at the first of two days of the MIAC indoor track and field championships at St. John's University in Collegeville. The Scots currently stand in ninth place going into tomorrow's final day of competition.

The Scots crossed the finish line in 10:20.94, bettering the old MIAC record but just short of first-place and new record-holding St. Olaf (10:20.56). Macalester relay team members were Tyson Morgan (Jr., Lewiston, Me.), Andrew Yokom (Jr., Arden Hills, Minn. / Mounds View), Josh Springer (Sr., Portland, Ore. / Cleveland) and Wade Eckstrom (So., La Crescent, Minn.).

Yokom and Kevin Williams (Jr., Jamaica) reached the finals of the 55-meter dash. Yokom placed fifth in the finals (6.54) and Williams placed eighth (6.65).

Martin Stenman Andersson (So., Uppsala, Sweden / IT Gymnasiet Uppsala) placed seventh in the seven-event heptathlon Thursday and Friday with a 4,183 final score. Stenman Andersson was second best out of 16 competitors in the long jump (20-7 ¾ / 6.29m), third in the 55-meter high hurdles (8.97), fourth in the 55 dash (7.00) and fifth in the high jump (5-7 ¼ / 1.71m).

Will Kennedy (Sr., San Anselmo, Calif. / The Branson School) placed eighth in the 800-meter run (2:02.10).

The meet continues tomorrow at 12 noon.
