Macalester vs. Concordia statistics & play-by-play

Macalester fought back from a 17-point deficit midway through the second half to make a game of it, but hot-shooting Concordia converted most of its late free throws and held on for an 87-83 win over the Scots at the College of St. Catherine. The Cobbers shot 60% from the field and went 8-for-14 from three-point range.

Concordia improves to 9-10 overall and 8-6 in the MIAC. Macalester goes to 6-12 overall and 4-9 in MIAC play.

The Cobbers shot 68% from the field in the first half to take a 43-33 lead at the intermission and finished the period on an 11-1 run to take command of a game which was close up to that point.    Leading 52-46 with 15:27 left in the game, Concordia staged a 13-1 rally to go up by 17 points with 12:14 to play.

As has been the case for much of the campaign, the Scots received big games from their All-MIAC pair of Abe Woldeslassie (Sr., Richfield, Minn. / St. Thomas Academy) and Tom Conboy (Sr., Chanhassen, Minn. / Minnetonka). Woldeslassie scored 26 points and distributed eight assists. In the second half alone, he had 18 points and five assists to lead the comeback attempt. Conboy led all scorers with 30 points and pulled down nine rebounds, just missing his eighth straight double-double.

Kyle Hamblett (Fy., Paris, France / American School) provided the team with nine points and four steals.

Mac enjoyed a 21-9 turnover advantage and out-scored their guests 26-10 in points off turnovers.

Luke Linz had 28 points and 12 rebounds to lead the way for the Cobbers. Erik Lien added 13 points.

Macalester returns to action Monday (Feb. 4) at St. Thomas.
