One night after winning the 100-yard backstroke finals, Nathan Young (Fy., Denver, Colo. / Littleton) claimed another conference crown when he placed first in the 200-yard backstroke finals on the third and final day of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) championships at the University of Minnesota. The Scots placed eighth in the team standings.

Young earned the top seed and center lane in the finals when he swam to a 1:55.56 clocking in the morning preliminary round. He came into the meet with the second best time on the season.  Just like in did in the 100 back, Young backed up his top seed by reaching the wall first in the finals with an NCAA 'B' qualifying time of 1:51.66. He is most likely headed to the NCAA Division III championship March 20-22. Young was an easy winner over runner up Adam Meyer of St. Olaf (1:54.04) after dominating the second half of the race.

Young won the MIAC 100 backstroke Friday with a time of 51.36 and on Thursday took sixth in the 200 individual medley.

Mitch Stepleton (So., Boulder, Colo. / Fairview) also turned in a big race for the Scots when he placed ninth in the 1650-yard freestyle (17:18.52).

The Scots placed seventh in the 400 freestyle relay (3:20.40) behind the efforts of Young, Seth McIntire (Jr., Seattle, Wash. / Garfield), Stepleton and Jeff Yamashita (Fy., Honolulu, Hi. / Iolani School).
