Scots place third at Macalester Invitational

The Scots hosted the 12th annual Macalester Invitational Saturday at Riley Pool and placed third out of seven participating teams. St. Thomas edged Concordia-Moorhead for the team title, while Mac was well clear of fourth-place St. Catherine.

The diving events were held in the morning and Annie Flanagan (Sr., Madison, Wis. / East) got the day off to a good start, winning on the 3-meter board (204.05) and taking second on the 1-meter board (198.10), exchanging victories with Concordia's Lauren Trudeau.

In the afternoon, Macalester received two first-place swims each from Karoline Hart (Fy., Rexford, N.Y. / Niskayuna) and Clare Pillsbury (Fy., Baraboo, Wis.). Hart won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.03) and 200 breast (2:31.03), while Pillsbury won the 500 free (5:31.31) and 200-yard individual medley (2:20.62).  Hart's wins in the breaststroke races were both in meet-record times.

Runner-up finishes, in addition to Flanagan in 1-meter diving, were turned in by Hillary Frey (Fy., Portland, Ore. / St. Mary's Academy) in the 200 back (2:17.30) and Grace Fleming (Fy., Northampton, Mass.) in both the 1000 free (11:22.19) and 200 free (2:04.78)

Mac raced to a second-place 400 freestyle relay effort (3:54.46) behind St. Thomas. Relay members were Pillsbury, Alex Cortes (Sr., Berkeley, Calif. / Head-Royce), Fleming and Hart.

Frey was also third in the 100 back (1:05.90) and Kiersten Yeazel (So., Shorewood, Wis.) was third in the 100 butterfly (1:07.01).
