Nick Santrach (So., Coon Rapids, Minn.) shot rounds of 82, 78 and a season-best 77 to lead the way for Macalester at the three-day MIAC championships at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids Saturday through Monday. Santrach's 237 led the team to an eighth-place finish in this 10-team tournament. He was 19th out of 50 players and his scorecards from the final two rounds were his two best of the fall season.
Two-time defending NCAA Division III champion St. John's walked away with the team title with an 889, while Gustavus Adolphus (917) held off Augsburg (922) for runner up status. SJU's Joe Schoolmeesters won his second MIAC individual crown to go along with his second-place '07 finish with a 218. Mac finished in eighth place, posting team scores of 323-318-315 to finish with a 956, just five strokes behind sixth-place Concordia.
Three Scots, other than Santrach, finished in the top 30.
Matt Arck (Sr., Manhattan, Kan.) came in as the team's No. 5 player and played his strongest golf of his career over the 54-hole event as Macalester's No. 2 player. Arck placed 25th to split the field with a 241 on days of 82-81-78.
Ben Langworthy (So., Tucson, Ariz. / Tucson Magnet School) finished in 26th place, one shot behind Arck, with a 242 on rounds of 79-83-80.
Ryan Peters (Jr., Kohler, Wis.) finished his three days with marks of 88-76-80 for a 28th-place 244.
