Scots hold award banquet; Godwin selected team MVP

Macalester’s volleyball team recently held its annual team dinner and named the following season award winners. Marie Godwin, a senior from Chaska, Minn., was voted the Most Valuable Player for the Scots. Marie played in all 74 sets for the Scots this season and finished with a team high 210 digs, surpassing the 1,000 career dig mark during the season. Marie was second in kills for the team, ending her career with 372.

Scots lose to St. Kate's in finale

10.30 | Volleyball

St. Catherine enjoyed a 44-22 advantage in kills and defeated Macalester in three sets in the 2009 season-finale for both teams. Set scores were 25-15, 25-17 and 25-14. Kiera Coulter produced 13 digs to lead Macalester’s back row performance and Danielle Dweck had 20 assists. Majra Mucic led the attack at the net with eight kills.

Macalester falls to Bethel

10.28 | Volleyball

Bethel pulled away from a 20-20 tie in the first set to win the opener 25-21, and went on to defeat Macalester 3-0 at the Leonard Center. The Royals won the second and third sets 25-18 and 25-20. The second set was tied 12-12 before the Royals controlled play the rest of the way. In set three, the tally was deadlocked at 16-16 before the visitors went up for good. Spiking seven kills apiece to lead Macalester’s attack were Erin Cusac, Taylor Tinkham and Majra Mucic.

Scots drop MIAC match to St. Mary’s

10.23 | Volleyball

St. Mary’s maintained its position in the race for a conference playoff spot by sweeping Macalester 3-0 at the Leonard Center. Set scores were 25-19, 25-13 and 25-12 as the Cardinals hit .350 for the match while serving eight aces. Majra Mucic led the attack with eight kills on a .293 hitting percentage and Danielle Dweck provided 18 set assists.
