Macalester ranks 7th in nation in team GPA

Macalester’s men’s track & field team has again earned team academic honors by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Also, Macalester’s Wade Ekstrom earned individual national academic honors. A total of 51 Division III programs made up the men’s 2009 All-Academic Teams and the Macalester Scots, under head coach Martin Peper, ranked seventh overall with a cumulative grade point average of 3.400.

Macalester track & field throws coach Bryan Tolcser will be competing at the USA Outdoor National Track & Field Championships this Thursday through Sunday (June 25-28) in the hammer throw. This past winter, Tolscer competed in the 35-pound weight throw at the indoor nationals and placed seventh.

Ekstrom places 12th in 1500 meters at NCAA meet

Macalester’s Wade Ekstrom placed 12th in the finals of the 1500-meter run Saturday at the NCAA Division III Championships in Marietta, Ohio. Ekstom made the finals by recording a 3:53.64 time in Thursday preliminary round heat. He was in the second- and third-place range early on through a couple tactical laps, but then fell back as the top contenders made their moves, finishing in 12th with a time of 4:01.32.

Ekstrom makes finals in 1500 at nationals

By placing third in his heat with a 3:53.64 time this afternoon, Macalester’s Wade Ekstrom (Jr. La Crescent, Minn.) has qualified for Saturday’s finals in the 1500-meter run at the NCAA Division III track & field championships in Marietta, Ohio. Ekstrom takes on 11 others runners in the championship finals set for Saturday at 1:20 p.m. (eastern time).
