Macalester’s top players competed last weekend (Sept. 25-26) at the Wilson / ITA Midwest Regionals hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College. This competition featured the top teams and players in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa.  The doubles team of Amanda Wenzel and Stephanie Lee advanced to the round of 16.

Macalester senior women’s tennis player Angie Horner has received ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Five honors. Horner receives second-team at-large honors.  Horner is the most accomplished player in the history of the Macalester women’s tennis program. She graduated last week with a double-major in English and Russian Studies, and a 3.89 cumulative grade point average.  Horner’s won-loss record at the top of the singles lineup over the past two spring seasons was 35-3 – all at No. 1.

The annual Macalester alumni tennis event is set for Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009 at the Macalester College Hayden Tennis Courts at 3 p.m.  The six previous alumni events were big successes and this is expected to once again be a popular event. For the second year in a row, Macalester’s Angie Horner, Stephanie Lee and Amanda Wenzel have earned All-MIAC honors.   These three combined to go 43-11 at the top of the singles lineup, including 22-8 in league play. The doubles team of Lee and Horner also gets an all-conference certificate for the second year in a row. They joined forces to go 7-3 at No. 1 doubles in the MIAC and 13-5 overall.
