Johnnies top Scots at Mac Invite

In the team’s final tune-up for the Feb. 18-20 MIAC championships, the Scots took on St. John’s in the Macalester Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Leonard Center’s Riley Pool. Macalester got off to a head start against a partial SJU squad Friday night, but the Johnnies came back Saturday to win the meet by an 853-461 tally. Jeff Yamashita swam to three first-place finishes and teammate Christian Bangert added another winning performance to lead the way for the Scots, who also won a couple relay races.

The Scots are hosting the Macalester Invitational Friday and Saturday (Dec. 4-5) at the Riley Pool in the Leonard Center. Participating teams, in addition to the Scots, are Augsburg, St. Catherine, St. Benedict, St. John's and Concordia-Moorhead (divers only) . Competition gets going Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday's event begin at 10 a.m. Meet website

Yamashita wins 50 freestyle at St. Kate’s Invite

01.23 | Men's Swimming & Diving

Jeff Yamashita won the 50-yard freestyle to lead the way for the Scots Saturday at the St. Catherine University Invitational. Yamashita was first out of 21 entrants with a time of 23.23. Macalester placed third out of four participating teams. In addition to taking the 50 free, Yamashita placed third in the 100 freestyle (50.48) and fourth in the 100 butterfly (56.37)

Junior swimmer Jeff Yamashita from Honolulu, Hawaii, is profiled on Macalester College's website. A History and International Studies double major, Yamashita says that "one of the best things about Macalester is how interesting, smart, and multitalented its students are."
