Macalester posted its second-highest scoring total ever and highest MIAC output ever, getting a career-high 29 points from Ann Baltzer and defeating Augsburg 94-66 in Minneapolis.   The all-time record for most points in a game for Macalester is 97 set in the 1994-95 season-opener against Grinnell (Ia.). Today’s outburst ties the second-highest total of 94 established in 1984-85 against St. Paul Bible (now Crown College). Mac’s previous best total in an MIAC game was 92 – accomplished twice in the 90’s.

Macalester shot a season-high 58% but came up short against league-leading Gustavus 74-66 at the Leonard Center as the Gusties avenge a loss to the Scots earlier in the season. The Gusties held a slim 35-32 halftime advantage and then made 13 of their first 16 second half shots to maintain their lead against a Mac team which was nearly equally hot and always within striking distance in this exciting contest.  Ann Baltzer scored 21 points and Eartha Bell just missed a double-double, finishing with nine points and nine rebounds.

St. Benedict controlled play most of the way and led by 18 at the halftime break, but had to hold off a furious 20-2 second half comeback rally by the Scots as Macalester came to within five points with 3:32 left. The Blazers, however, re-grouped and pulled away for a 67-53 win over the Scots in St. Joseph.  Ann Baltzer registered a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead Macalester.  Eartha Bell played a strong all-around game, finishing with a career-best 13 rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Macalester and St. Thomas battled into overtime Saturday at Concordia University’s Gangelhoff Center and when this thriller was all said and done, the Tommies had themselves a 76-75 victory. Mac’s second straight defeat drops the Scots into fourth place in the MIAC standings at 11-4, while UST is right behind in fifth at 10-5.  MIAC scoring leader Ann Baltzer went 10-for-12 from the field for the Scots and finished with 23 points.
