The Scots swam to four first-place performances and finished fourth at the Macalester Roger Ahlman Invitational at the Leonard Center Riley Pool Saturday. Grace Fleming led the way for Macalester by winning a pair of events, the 500-yard freestyle (5:32.62) and 100-yard backstroke (2:03.90). Clare Pillsbury won the 400-yard individual medley (4:58.87) and Karoline Hart took top honors in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.78).

Macalester is hosting the Roger Ahlman Invitational on Saturday (Nov. 21) at the Riley Pool in the Leonard Center. Diving starts at 9 .m. and swimming events begin at 1 p.m. Participating teams, in addition to the Scots, are Augsburg, Concordia, Hamline, St. Catherine, St. Thomas and St. Olaf (divers only). Macalester swam to nine first-place efforts to beat St. Mary’s 133-81 in an MIAC dual meet against St. Mary’s in Winona. The Scots improve to 3-1 in dual meets on the young season and are 2-1 in MIAC competitions.  Hillary Frey, Grace Fleming and Karoline Hart each swam to a pair of first-place finishes to lead the way for the Scots.

Five MIAC teams from the metro area participated in Tuesday's Hour of Power.

Macalester was one of hundreds of colleges nation-wide which are hosting the fourth-annual Ted Mullen “Leave it in the Pool” Hour of Power Relay in the name of cancer research on Tuesday (Nov. 10).  The event was in honor of former Carleton College student and athlete Edward H. “Ted” Mullin, who passed away from sarcoma, a rare soft-tissue cancer, in 2006.   The event is a one-hour, all-out, leave-it-in-the-pool practice that was staged simultaneously at numerous pools across the country. Joining the Scots in this event at the Riley Pool were be Hamline, St. Thomas, St. Catherine and Augsburg.
